Cancer: The Occurence


Cancer is a generic term for a complex group of diseases representing more than 200 distinct diseases that can affect any part of the body. One defining feature of cancer is the rapid creation of abnormal cell that growth beyond their unusual boundaries and which can then invade adjoining parts to other organs via lymph or blood.

Cancer afflicts about 10 million people annually, and contributed 13% of all death worldwide. The number of people who diagnosed with cancer to-date is over 22 million. Worldwide, it is a second most common cause of death, and in 2007 WHO (World Health Organization) reported that 72% of deaths occurrence is from the low and middle-income countries (that's including Malaysia). Every year, 45% of diagnose cancer patients are come from Asia region, with South-East Asia expected continues to worsen with more than 5.3 million cases.

There is clear evidence, that one-third cancer are preventable, another third can be effectively treated (early detection and treatment). Most influential factors - In certain regions conventional treatment remains unavailable or inaccessible, costly and late detection of cancer. If these factors can be lessen, the morbidity due to the late effects of disease or treatment could be minimize.


In Malaysia, the most frequent cancer occurrence is breast cancer (18.0%), large bowel cancer 911.9%) and lung cancer (7.4%). The cancer incidence by sex is 45.3% in male and 54.7% in women.
